This
kitchen presented a few challenges due to its size, darkness,
lack of useable wall space and having a main thoroughfare run
through it. The client wanted a kitchen that would work well for
their busy family life and compliment the style of the house.
A white on white theme was used to work with the large colonial
conservatory that is open plan at the end of the dining room
and lounge. Silestone Granite was the ideal choice for the benches
because of its durability and colour choice. Stainless Steel
negative detail was added to give a ‘lift’ to the
bench and separate it from the cabinetry. The walk-in pantry
has bi-fold colonial doors to match in with the rest of the
house doors, whilst a plain door style was used for the cabinetry
so as not to clutter the other colonial features of the home.
The island acts as a separation between the thoroughfare and
the kitchen and allows more than one entry into the kitchen
creating excellent flow, as well as giving much needed bench
space. The crockery is housed in the drawers of the island and
have heavy duty runners to cope with the weight. An existing
wall was taken out to give more space to the kitchen and lighten
the area and a ¾ oven tower was put in to continue the
open plan theme.
The end
result is a kitchen that has excellent flow, is very functional
and stylish and blends seamlessly into the home.
